Recovery of Stolen Vehicle Nets Two Arrests with Weapons

FRESNO - On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, Detectives from the Fresno Police Department’s Career Criminal Auto Theft Team (CCATT) located a 1994 Honda Accord driving in the area of Woodrow and Gettysburg. The Honda was a reported stolen vehicle out of Northeast Fresno. The Honda parked and the two occupants walked to a nearby residence. Detectives made contact at the residence and took the two occupants into custody.

During a subsequent search of the residence, detectives located a homemade “zip gun” in the garage. The “zip gun” was loaded with a .357 caliber round.The driver was identified as Nestor Ramos, 28, of Fresno. Ramos was also wanted for a prior “chop shop” case. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail for felony charges of operating a chop shop, auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a “zip gun.”

NASA's Cassini Spacecraft Ends Its Historic Exploration of Saturn

WASHINGTON D.C. - A thrilling epoch in the exploration of our solar system came to a close today, as NASA's Cassini spacecraft made a fateful plunge into the atmosphere of Saturn, ending its 13-year tour of the ringed planet. "This is the final chapter of an amazing mission, but it's also a new beginning," said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for NASA's Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "Cassini's discovery of ocean worlds at Titan and Enceladus changed everything, shaking our views to the core about surprising places to search for potential life beyond Earth."

Telemetry received during the plunge indicates that, as expected, Cassini entered Saturn's atmosphere with its thrusters firing to maintain stability, as it sent back a unique final set of science observations. Loss of contact with the Cassini spacecraft occurred at 7:55 a.m. EDT (4:55 a.m. PDT), with the signal received by NASA's Deep Space Network antenna complex in Canberra, Australia.

Robert King Charged With Felony Indecent Exposure For Wild Water Incident

FRESNO - Robert Jack King (52, of Clovis) has been charged in a Felony Complaint with one felony count of Indecent Exposure with a Prior, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has announced. On June 26, 2017, Mr. King was arrested by members of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly exposing himself at Wild Water Adventure Park in Clovis.

The criminal complaint charges a felony violation of Indecent Exposure with a prior. The complaint also alleges that Mr. King was previously convicted of a misdemeanor charge of Indecent Exposure in 1994. If convicted of the charge, Mr. King faces a sentence of up to three (3) years in custody, as well as registration as a sex offender.

Detectives Seek to Identify Armed Squaw Valley Burglars

SQUAW VALLEY - Property crimes detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office need the public’s help to identify three men who committed a burglary. It happened around 7:00 am on August 31st at a home located on the 45000 block of Old Sand Creek Road in Squaw Valley. Three white men, who appear to be in their early 20s, walked onto the property and scanned the area to see if anyone was around.

A video doorbell security system recorded footage as one of the men kicked open the front door, allowing all of them to go inside. One of the men, who has large ear lobe plugs / tunnels, served as a lookout for brief time. All three men eventually left the home carrying various items they had taken from inside. At least two of the suspects were seen holding handguns. There is a possibility the suspects parked a Honda Civic nearby to use as their getaway car.

Fresno Police Department Will Check Car Seats During Child Passenger Safety Week

FRESNO - Every day in America, too many children ride in car seats that have been installed incorrectly, or are riding in the wrong car seats for their ages and sizes. Even worse, many other children ride while completely unbuckled. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), two out of three car seats are improperly installed or misused. To help combat this issue, the Fresno Police Department and NHTSA is sponsoring Child Passenger Safety Week from September 17-23, 2017, a campaign dedicated to helping parents, grandparents and caregivers make sure their children ride as safe as possible - every trip, every time.

Every 33 seconds in 2015, a child under 13 was involved in a crash. Using car seats that are age/size appropriate is the best way to keep your children safe. According to NHTSA, motor vehicle crashes are a leading killer of children, and fatalities are on the rise. Car seats, booster seats, and seat belts can make all the difference. In 2015, there were 248 children under the age of 5 saved because they were riding in car seats. Car seats matter, and having the right car seat installed and used the right way is critical.

FoodLink of Tulare County to Hold Annual Food Day Event on October 28th

EXETER - Every October, Americans will attend thousands of events across the country to celebrate Food Day – an experience to enjoy real food and to influence change towards improved food policies. Food Link of Tulare County will be holding their Annual Food Day Event on October 28, 2017, at 611 2^nd St., Exeter, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to the Food Day’s official website, Food Day is “a day to resolve to make changes in our own diets and to take action to solve food-related problems in our communities at the local, state, and national level.”

Southwest Patrol Officers Arrest Armed Suspect During Patrol Check

FRESNO - On Monday, September 11, 2017, Southwest Officers Yessie Hernandez and Gilberto Quezada from the Fresno Police Department were conducting crime suppression patrol in the area of White and Warren Avenues. They saw a Recreational Vehicle illegally parked in a dirt lot near this intersection and decided to do a patrol check on the vehicle.

A female subject was sitting on the ground in front of this vehicle, the officers approached her to determine why the vehicle was parked illegally. The female was identified as Leticia Sept, a 26 year old Fresno Resident. As the Officers approached they saw Leticia had quickly hid a rifle on the ground next to her. The rifle was a Ruger .22 caliber rifle, which had been modified by having the butt stock removed.
