Virginia Lee McClaran (84)

Virginia Lee McClaran (84), born January 31, 1940, to J.E. and Mary McKinney, passed peacefully in her home on January 7. Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and educator. She was married to her loving husband, Everett McClaran, for 66 years and raised two children together.

Education was extremely important to her. She worked for Madera Unified for 34 years, where she helped open Alpha School and touched the lives of many colleagues, students, and families in town. After her retirement, she was active in the American Association of University Women.

Over the years, she developed a knack for quilting and made many wonderful friendships with members of The Heart of California Quilt Guild. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and playing her piano. Virginia loved to travel, and although she traveled to other countries, her favorite place to be was Arroyo Grande with her family.

Virginia is survived by her husband Everett, sister Louise Armstrong and her husband Paul, brother Don McKinney and his wife Cheryl, son Michael and his wife Kelly, daughter Susan Dawson and her husband Bobby, and granddaughter Kaylee Dawson, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Per Virginia's request, a private service will be held at Jay Chapel for family only. Memorial contributions may be made to the California Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund or a Charity of the donor’s choice. The address is CalRTA c/o Rachel Church, 29564 Yosemite Springs Pkwy 200, Coarsegold, CA 93614, or Hinds Hospice in lieu of flowers.
