Garibay Attacks Public Comments at MUSD Meeting

Madera - Oh what a four years it is going to be at Madera Unified with the likes of Lynn Cogdill and Robert Garibay on the board of trustees. During public comment at last night's board meeting I brought up how Trustee Cogdill has been contacting my teenage step-son on Facebook with friends requests; requests that have been ignored and deleted. I questioned why a man of Mr. Cogdill's age would be contacting high school students on Facebook and whether or not that was appropriate.

With the way board president Garibay scolded me following my comments you would have thought I accused Cogdill of cheating on his wife, fighting to not pay his kids child support or saying he had no idea which of his kids were really his. He said my comments were out of line and inappropriate for that forum but where else would they be brought up?

EDThe Real PTA Shuts Down Clandestine Madera PTA GroupITORIAL:

EDITORIAL - If you are a fan of Facebook you have probably ran across a group on the web site who claims they are interested in helping the children of our local schools with purchasing supplies for the classroom. Madera Unified District PTA is a Facebook group created by an employee of Madera County Mental Health Department, Lynn Cogdill.

Cogdill is a candidate for the Madera Unified School District Board of Trustees District 2 as he returned his paperwork to the Madera County Clerks Office Friday afternoon. Realtor Edward McIntyre is also a declared candidate for the seat currently held by Phillip Jansen. McIntyre is the husband of former Madera County Supervisor Gail Hanhart-McIntyre.

EDITORIAL: Blankenship Out at MHS Football

EDITORIAL - Love him or hate him, no one can say Randy Blankenship has not made a difference with the Madera High School football program. When Randy came to Madera I supported our former head football coach Mike Anderson.

A group of people lead by the late Mike Young, former chief academic officer for Madera Unified brought Randy to Madera to force out Coach Anderson. Young and others sabotaged Anderson's program and turned student-athletes against the former coach.

EDITORIAL: Kevin Costner and 1352 Guitar Pickers in Nashville

EDITORIA: - There are 1352 guitar pickers in Nashville. That was the figure touted by John Sebastian of the Lovin’ Spoonful back in 1966.  Many men and women have tried to make it in the music business in music cities in the USA.  Some have made it to global success, like Taylor Swift, and many others have had to find something else to do. Some have managed to make a living from music.

Scott Lindsey is one of those 1352 guitar pickers. He recently co-wrote a song with mega movie star Kevin Costner, and that’s pretty good for anyone in Nashville at any level of the industry.

EDITORIAL: Is the Titanic worth the risk?

EDITORIAL - Life is filled with risks. Perhaps you enjoy skydiving, climbing Mount Everest, or swimming with sharks?  Each endeavor involves serious risks. Nothing would be accomplished on this planet without people willing to venture out into the unknown.

Space exploration and medical and educational advances would be stymied without an innate spirit to try new things and go boldly where no man has gone before. That’s right. Star Trek would never have existed without the imagination of Gene Roddenberry.
