Lyndon Mandrell (75)

Lyndon Leroy Mandrell (75) after courageously fighting health issues for the last three and a half years, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015, in Fresno, CA.

Lyndon was born on March 9, 1939, in Mountain View, OK, to Leonard and Amy Mandrell. He was the eldest of four children. In 1948, the family moved to California and settled in the Red Top area. He attended local schools and graduated from Chowchilla High School in 1958. After high school, Lyndon attended Modesto Jr. College until he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served for four years.

After being discharged from the Army, he returned to Chowchilla and began a long career in the agricultural field, swathing hay and later commercial harvesting. He was a talented mechanic and at one time owned a gas station. He believed in repairing equipment the right way and not cutting corners. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together. He could fix just about anything. He was a hard worker and always gave his best.

Lyndon was a true history buff and was well read and knowledgeable. He was a trains, planes and old automobile enthusiast. But the thing he enjoyed the most was his family. He was a devoted husband, wonderful father and proud grandfather. He taught by example, encouraged his daughters to continually reach their goals and was always there when his family needed him.

Lyndon had a close relationship with God and gave unselfishly to others. He also had a heart for animals. Lyndon rescued many unwanted puppies that became cherished members of the family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Amy Mandrell; two brothers, Larry and Dale Mandrell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Ruby Walker.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patty Mandrell; two daughters, Tricia Placencia and husband David, Stacy Burns and husband Keith; one grandson, Jacob Burns all of Chowchilla; one sister, Teresa Thomas and husband Rick of Oroville, CA along with several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13th, at Cornerstone Community Church in Chowchilla.
