Local Dentist Greg Moran Dies at 63

MADERA - Long-time Madera resident Greg Moran DDS died on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the age of 63, leaving a lifetime of memories for all those who loved him. Born in Longview, Washington to Bob and Gloria Moran (Konrath). Greg's family moved to Madera when he was 7 years old.

Always a good student, Greg graduated from Madera High School in 1967, the University of Southern California (USC) in 1971, and University of the Pacific Dental School in 1975. Always a fan of his home town, Greg created a successful family dental practice that he ran with integrity and love.

Greg was active in Rotary for many years and became a Paul Harris Fellow in 1979. He was very active in the international Rotary project to totally eradicate polio, which was typical of his interest in helping people. Much of this activity came in the form of mission trips and other programs through his church, Yosemite Christian Center of Madera. In fact, his Christian faith was very important and when given the opportunity he would share that faith and wisdom with others.

Greg's love of the arts shone through in so many areas of his life! His connection with nature was clear in the hours that he spent outdoors creating life and watching things grow. His musical passion collided when he played the guitar and sang to the world with his most beautiful voice, blessing the world with his gifts. He never took his talents for granted, or was prideful, always attributed his abilities to his higher power. Photography became a passion later in life, and his creativity was most obvious in the pictures he took of his children and grandchildren. His love for them and pride in them shone through the many, many photos in his collection. His grandchildren will miss Papa Greg's warm smile, and the big hugs he would give them, as he secretly slipped them a five, and solidified his position as Grandpa Hero in their lives.

Serenity was very much what Greg worked to have in his life, he found that through fishing with his friends and helping others in whatever way he could. He found peace in dedicating himself to his parents, his work, his faith, and his children. He was so proud of those that he loved, and never critical. Very few ever heard him raise his voice or complain. Even in times of sadness, his answer to most questions was "I'm here walking the earth another day. The Lord has blessed me." His hearty voice and handshake will be missed by all, as will his talent for leaving very creative and unique versions of "Happy Birthday" on a loved one's answering machine.

Greg is survived by his brother Mark and wife Linda and children of southern California, and his brother Scott and children of Dublin, CA. He is also survived by his daughter Amanda Moran and grandchildren Christian, Tori, Ashlynn, and Saylor of Fresno, Ca; son Evan and wife Amanda and grandchildren Ethan, Rory and Kendyll of Bend, OR; and son Christopher and wife Sone and grandchildren CJ and Logan of Fresno, Ca.

Services will be held at 11am at the Yosemite Christian Center of Madera on Saturday July 13, 2013 with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the charity of your choosing in Greg's name.
