Wife of Former Police Chief Dies: Carole Skeels (68)

Carole J. Skeels (68) was born June 7, 1944 to Sidney and Della (Cox) Dotson in Madera, CA she entered into eternity on Monday, April 22, 2013 in Fresno, CA after a lengthy heart condition. Carole attended local elementary and high schools. She went on to Fresno City College and obtained her L.V.N. license. In 1965 Carole started worked in the medical field, the last 10 years of her career she was as an O.R. Technician, she retired in 1990 after 25 years. She was accomplished and respected in the operating room. Many Doctors refused to perform a procedure if she was not there to assist.


On August 14, 1964, Carole was married to former Madera Police Chief Gordon Skeels and their lives began together on a course that would touch and influence countless people. Carole was a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Madera First Ward. Through the years she had many opportunities to serve in various positions including serving with Gordon as a Missionary in the Tennessee Nashville Mission and as an Ordinance Worker for 10 years in the Fresno Temple. She had the ability to find the good in everyone and not speak poorly of people. Carole was a woman of great faith and truly loved people for who they were.

She is preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Calvin Blaine Skeels.

Carole is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gordon Skeels of Madera. her daughters, Pam Moore and her husband Dale of Texas, Phyllis Waechtler and her husband Josef of Utah, Terri Carr and her husband John of Missouri, Sherili Jones and her husband Chris of Nevada, Jamie Myers and her husband Jeff of Madera, and Claudia Griffin and her husband Todd of Utah. She is the sister of Barbara Bowen of Clovis, Patsy Sloan of Madera and Scherry Peters of Clovis. Carole leaves behind twenty Grandchildren, and twenty three Great-Grandchildren.

Carole will be remembered as a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother, that had a Christ like love for all.

Services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2112 Sunset Ave, Madera, CA 93637 with interment to follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.

As per Carole's wishes no public visitation will be held.
