Don Konkol (95), a native of Ashland, WI and a resident of Madera, CA for 53 years passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Cedar Creek Retirement Community. He was owner and operator of Sierra Foodland Grocery store from 1960 to 1986. He also owned and operated Madera Custom Meat Locker, Loknok Deli and Madera Party Rentals.

After retirement he and his wife, Jean managed the Reef Apartments, Town and Country Apartments and Rosewood Court. Don will always be remembered for his Konkol and Konkol Productions at every family event. Don was a member of the Exchange Club, the Ells Club, Madera Golf and Country Club and the Organizers Organ Group in Fresno.

He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Konkol; mother Elise Konkol, father John Konkol and Brother Kenneth Konkol.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jean Konkol of Madera, two sisters, Lorraine Anderson of Ashland, WI and Laverne Conners of Fresno, one brother, Howard Konkol of Slayton, MI, one daughter, Sally Bomprezzi and her husband Jim of Madera, two sons, Michael Konkol and his wife Debbie of Fresno, and Sandy Konkol and his wife Ellie of Anderson, CA. He is the grandfather to Janet, Michael, Tanya, Brad, Richard, Greg. Brandon, Anthony and Angela, he also leaves behind fourteen great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the wonderful staff at Cedar Creek for their love and support for Don over the past two years, and St. Agnes Hospice for providing comfort to Don in his last days.
