Alyssa Fernandez (29)

Alyssa Fernandez (29) was born in San Jose; Ca. Alyssa spent part of her childhood years in Elk Grove Ca and the rest of the years in Madera Ca. She was the most beautiful baby. She lived in San Jose, until the age of three. She started kindergarten in Elk Grove Ca. She had many friends and was the eldest of three children. Alyssa was quite the character. She loved to make people laugh and had the most beautiful smile!

Our family then moved to Madera when Alyssa was in the 5th grade, due to mom’s work she works for PG&E. Alyssa had always wanted to work for PG&E ever since mom took Alyssa to bring your child to the workday.

Alyssa played varsity softball for Madera South all four years of High School. She graduated in 2010, with advanced floral design. She learned how to make beautiful arrangements for special events such as weddings and quinceaneras. Alyssa worked floral wedding bouquets, boutonnières, and centerpieces for extra cash. She loved working with the flowers and making people happy! She hoped to one day open her own floral shop.

While growing up in Madera Alyssa loved our family dogs Smokey and Russell, loved riding dirt bikes with her brother, and hanging out with her friends.

Alyssa loved music and dancing. She was always the DJ. She loved boxing, football, and going to concerts. She was always the life of the party. She made the best Mac n cheese. She also enjoyed making social media videos and posts. She loved her giant snauzhauer Bruno.

Alyssa’s childhood dream came true when she got a job with PG&E. She was a member of the IBEW 1245. Alyssa was a standout Customer Service Representative at PG&E San Jose Call Center. After a short hiatus away from PG&E, she returned to PG&E and most recently served as a Routine Field Clerk supporting the Fleet.

Alyssa emerged as a compelling young union leader who was widely respected by her peers. In 2017, she was appointed as an IBEW 1245 Organizing Stewart.

Alyssa participated in multiple organizing campaigns, including IBEW Local 465’s drive to organize the clerical division at San Diego Power and Gas, putting in twelve-to-fifteen-hour days. She eagerly participated in organizing pieces of training, coming in early to the Hall to set up, leading break-out sessions, and staying late to clean up.  She represented IBEW 1245 at various conferences, including the annual RENEW and EWMC conferences. She was typically the first to volunteer to pack a hearing hall and to mobilize her peers to help.

In 2018, Alyssa was appointed as a Lead Organizing Steward in recognition of her dedication and leadership qualities.

Alyssa was such a caring person, that when she received her driver’s license at 16 years old she placed the pink dot on her driver’s license to be a donor. The day she took her last breath, she saved three lives. A woman is the recipient of her lungs and two separate recipients of both of her kidneys. Her heart was unable to be used but her heart valves will be used. Alyssa will now be with her baby Alyssandra, together forever.

Alyssa will be missed by all of us. She left her imprint on each of our hearts. She leaves behind so many loved ones. She is survived by her (mother) Rhodie Herrera Macias, (father) Tomas Fernandez (brother )Roman Fernandez, (sister) Abby Fernandez, (step-dad) Robert Macias, (sister in law)Jocelyne Herrera-Fernandez, (niece) Kira Fernandez, (nephew)Adrian Salinas
