FRESNO - Fresno County Sheriff's Deputies have booked 25-year-old Lewis Alvarado of Madera into the Fresno County Jail.

He faces charges of Driving Under the Influence (D.U.I.), evading police and driving on a suspended license for D.U.I.  He has since posted bond and been released from jail with a future court date scheduled.

Late in the afternoon on Wednesday, a Fresno County Sheriff’s sergeant saw a blue 2003 Honda Accord travelling at approximately 100 mph.  As the driver was on Ashlan Ave. in Fresno, he nearly struck a pedestrian who was using a crosswalk.  The sergeant attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Lewis Alvarado, refused to pull over.  A pursuit ensued and Alvarado eventually pulled over near Van Ness and Shields Ave.  The sergeant took Alvarado into custody.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol responded to conduct a D.U.I. evaluation.  CHP determined Alvarado was over the legal limit for alcohol consumption.
