MADERA - On Thursday, November 13, 2025, at approximately 7:10 p.m., the Madera Police Department received a 911 call reporting a robbery in progress at Oliva’s Fine Jewelry, located at 1119 Country Club Drive. According to the caller, several male suspects entered the business brandishing what appeared to be a firearm at the owner and employees.
The suspects immediately began smashing glass jewelry cases and removing jewelry. During the incident, the father of the store owner retrieved a firearm and fired rounds toward the suspects inside the store. At the same time, a female juvenile family member of the store owner jumped onto the back of one of the assailants as he was stealing items from a display case. As gunfire erupted, the suspects grabbed the jewelry they could and fled the store to a vehicle parked outside.
The getaway vehicle, described as a dark gray sedan, was later located outside the city limits and was found to have been reported stolen from another law enforcement jurisdiction. Following a review of video surveillance, investigators determined that no one—neither suspects, victims, nor bystanders—was struck by gunfire. The suspect vehicle and surrounding businesses were also not hit. The father of the store owner is a legal firearm owner.
Surveillance footage further revealed that the first suspect who entered the store extended his arms in a manner suggesting he was pointing a firearm; however, investigators later determined the suspect did not possess a firearm, but was holding a weapon. The suspects waited for customers to leave the store before entering, seemingly to avoid triggering the front door’s locking mechanism. During the robbery, a fifth suspect held the front door open to prevent it from locking and trapping the group inside.
The Madera Police Department continues to review and process all aspects of this incident, including the actions of the suspects and the actions of the father who discharged his firearm. Fortunately, no innocent bystanders were injured. At this time, the MPD is not releasing the surveillance footage to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation. They are aware that video footage is circulating publicly by ABC30; however, it was not released by their agency.
