MCSO Celebrates Completion of Oakhurst River Parkway Road (Midtown Connector Project)

MADERA COUNTY - Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue joined Supervisor Tom Wheeler, mountain area residents, allied first responders, and other local dignitaries to celebrate completion of the long awaited River Parkway Road (Midtown Connector) on February 18, 2022.

The project broke ground in November of 2020 and serves as a new access route for the community of Indian Springs, several area churches, Oakhurst Elementary School, Oak Creek Intermediate, and Yosemite High School.

This project was designed to increase public safety for the community by facilitating improved traffic flow and evacuation routes. The road will allow emergency services personnel better access to the area in the event of a critical incident or disaster. By improving traffic flow, first responders will also be able to respond more easily to the area for more common traffic accidents and other routine incidents to better serve the community.

During the ceremony, Sheriff Pogue remarked, “I have spent my entire life living and working in Madera County. The safety and security of this community is near and dear to my heart. This is a great example of determined perseverance to accomplish a goal to improve public safety and traffic flow. County leadership recognized the dangers to the community in this area many years ago and they never gave up.”
