Madera Unified Extends School Closure to May 1

MADERA - After careful deliberation with health agencies, local officials, and a special school board meeting, Madera Unified School District has decided to extend the school closures to Friday, May 1, 2020, to limit the community spread of COVID-19.

With continuing consultation and review of the COVID-19 situation and guidance from the Madera County Department of Public Health, the schools will reevaluate the possibility of reopening on May 4, 2020. The reopening of schools will be based on both safety conditions and the current information available from local, state and federal officials at that time.

Madera Unified Superintendent Todd Lile said, “We understand how challenging these decisions are for our families and we appreciate your patience and support. We are very grateful for all that our students, staff, and parents are doing to support the safety and continuity of education.”

The following is intended to provide you with more details and support during our extended closure.

Student Food Distribution
The Public Health guidelines provide for the continuation of our food service program.

  • MUSD will continue to provide breakfast and lunch as follows:
  • Distribution Days: ONLY on Mondays

    • Bags will include
      • A week’s worth of food for each student

“We want to thank all staff who are working tirelessly to help our students remain connected to the school community. We know the adults on school campuses are an important part of a student’s life and we will do our best to try and maintain that connection. We also want to thank our families for your patience and trust as we work together to maintain some sense of normalcy in these difficult times. You have our unwavering commitment to do all we can to help you and your children.”, Lile added
