Madera’s Newest Supervisor Wins in a Landslide: Gonzalez Leads With 60% of the Vote

MADERA - Madera County elected it’s third female supervisor in the county’s 126 years history yesterday. Leticia Gonzelaz, the chief of staff for current district four supervisor Max Rodriguez, was a head all evening and right now sits with a two to one lead of her closest opponent Ric Arredondo with 25.19% of the votes counted.

Both Gonzlaez and Arredondo moved into District Four from Madera County’s District Three to run for this seat. Arredondo also resigned his seat on the Madera Unified Board of Trustees.  In District Three, incumbent Supervisor Robert Poythress ran unopposed and scored over 3500 votes, more votes that all of the candidates in District Four received.

Community activist Eddie Block, who was recently arrested for a hit and run DUI incident in the Madera Ranchos, only scored 175 votes. Block, a self described Trump supporting conservative,  has said that he will make a run for the Madera City Council in November against incumbent Derek Robinson.

In Fresno, former Fresno County District Attorney Elizebeth Egan easily won her seat on the Fresno County Superior Court with over 62% of the vote. In the Fresno Mayor race, former Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer passed the 50 percent threshold over Fresno County Deputy District Attorney Andrew Janz with 54% of the counted ballots.

If yesterday were the General Election California’s 16th Congressional district would have a new congressman and it would be a Republican. According to the Ballotpedia.com website, Congressman Jim Costa received 37% of the vote with 25,401 ballots in his favor. However the Republican, Kevin Cookingham, received 38% of the vote with 26,129 votes cast. Both candidates will move on to the November 3rd General Presidential election in 244 days.
