Methhead Kills Family Puppy: Locked Up in Jail With NO Bail

MADERA - On May 6th, 2019 at about 8:45 pm officers from the Madera Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block of South D Street regarding a large pool of blood located in a family’s driveway.  When the officers arrived and contacted the residents of the property they were informed a cousin to the family, identified as Ambrocio Hernandez, was standing near their fence line when they arrived home.

Hernandez was not allowed at the property due to his extensive drug use and aggressive demeanor. After Hernandez was told to leave the property (which he did), law enforcement was contacted regarding the blood found on scene. Officers investigated the scene and followed the blood trail to a garbage can. Inside the garbage can they found the family dog, deceased, with extensive blunt force trauma. It was believed Hernandez may have killed the animal and an investigation was started to attempt to locate him.

Officers were able to locate Hernandez’ and his vehicle a short time later. Hernandez had a large amount of blood, mostly focused around his hands and shoes. He was also in possession of a hammer which is believed to have been the weapon used.

During an interview, Hernandez admitted to killing the family dog, sighting that it wanted to play with him too much and was bugging him. Hernandez was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. MPD has had previous contacts with Hernandez, and on some occasions, he has been combative.  The family dog belonged to Hernandez’ young daughter

Some have argued that illegal drug use only affects those that use it; unfortunately this is not true. This is a perfect example of the paranoia and violence that can occur with extensive methamphetamine use. Hernandez was arrested for animal cruelty, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

He is being held in the Madera County Department of Corrections without bail.
