Fresno PD Response Team Takes Another Gang-Banger & Gun Off the Streets of Fresno

FRESNO - Early Sunday morning officers from the Fresno Police Department’s Southeast Special Response Team (SE SRT) (Officer Steve Baiza and Officer Sergio Gonzalez) were assigned to a city wide gang operation. They were proactively patrolling the area of Dakota and Effie Avenues in an effort to reduce gang violence and shootings.

They initiated a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation. They contacted the driver, 27 year-old Jacar Jones, a Six Deuce Diamond Crip Criminal Street Gang Member. Jones admitted to the officers he possessed a Glock handgun in his vehicle. Jones told the officers he legally possessed his firearm because he has a permit to carry.

Officers obtained consent to searched Jones’ vehicle and located a loaded Glock handgun. They also learned Jones did not possess a Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit. Jones was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail for possession of a loaded concealed firearm in his vehicle.

Southeast SRT Officers have recovered thirteen (13) firearms from the streets of Fresno this year. The Southeast Policing District wants to remind the public that the Fresno Police Department is committed to building relationships with community members while providing the highest level of service to keep our citizens safe. They will continue to provide and share their on-going efforts with the community in order to maintain and build public trust.

The Fresno Police Department would like to remind the public that Crime Stoppers has enhanced the rewards for information related to gang members who are involved in narcotics sales, firearm possession, and human trafficking.

The new campaign consists of the following monetary rewards for anonymous tips. If a gang member is arrested for possessing a handgun, the reward is $2,000. If a gang member is arrested for possessing an assault rifle, the reward is $3,000. If a gang member is arrested for human trafficking, the reward is $3,000 and if a gang member is involved in drug sales, the reward is $1,000. Anyone with information is urged to call crime stoppers at (559)-498-STOP (7869) with information.
