Former Madera Fire Captain Wanted in Sacramento Murder

****STORY UPDATE****

SACRAMENTO COUNTY
- The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its effort to locate and arrest Orville "Moe" Fleming (55) in connection with the death of paid escort Sara Douglas (27) which occurred on May 1st just after midnight.  Douglas was discovered deceased in the home she shares with Fleming on Fox River Way in Sacramento County around 8:55am by her sister, Stephanie Douglas.

Due to the intense media interest in this case, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department has received tips as far away as Oregon. Sheriff’s Detectives and Crime Scene investigators worked in conjunction with personnel from the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office Crime Lab throughout the night to gather evidence at the residence where this incident occurred to try and piece together what happened.  Investigators observed injuries on Douglas’ body indicating she was stabbed during this altercation.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will make a determination as to the actual cause of Douglas’ death. Investigators observed a large amount of blood evidence in the scene, most of which is believed to be Douglas’, however it is likely that Fleming has injuries on his body that caused him to bleed at the scene as well.

The Cal Fire vehicle Fleming had been driving was located by the Elk Grove Police Department Saturday night at the intersection of Black Kite Drive and Apricot Woods Way in the City of Elk Grove.  People in that neighborhood told investigators that the vehicle may have been parked there as early as 6:00am Thursday.  Some people stated they may have seen the vehicle parked in the neighborhood on prior occasions as well leading investigators to believe Fleming may know or have some ties to that neighborhood.

Investigators have discovered that Fleming has had contact with many escorts he met through the website: MyRedbook.  Investigators are looking into the possibility that someone Fleming knew, either through his contact with escorts, or through his personal or professional life, picked him up and drove him away from the area where his vehicle was found in Elk Grove.

The Sheriff’s Department and the Elk Grove Police Department conducted a search of the neighborhood where his vehicle was found which included the use of a helicopter, a fixed wing airplane, police K-9’s and officers but did not find Fleming in the immediate area.  Although a firearm was not used in this incident, Fleming is known to own firearms and is likely in possession of firearms at this time.

Fleming has close family in the Fresno/Clovis area and worked in Madera County as a Cal Fire captain, so investigators are looking at the possibility that he may have gone to or may try to go to those community.  Investigators have been in contact with those family members and they are cooperating with investigators.  Sheriff’s investigators have also been in close contact with representatives of Cal Fire and appreciate the cooperating and assistance they have given in this investigation.

Investigators understand Fleming may have reached out for assistance and would like to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Fleming the night of the murder or thereafter.  People providing information may speak with the investigators confidentially, but Investigators wish to stress, at this point forward, anyone providing further assistance to Fleming since the homicide incident may incur criminal liability for their involvement.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Orville Fleming is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency or the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department at 916-874-5115 immediately.
