Neighbors Pull Guns During Fresno Argument

FRESNO -  Early Sunday morning officers with the Fresno Police Department’s Southeast Policing District were dispatched to the 3200 block of East McKenzie Ave regarding a disturbance between neighbors. The victim involved in this incident called police and advised Fresno Police Dispatch that he was confronted by two neighbors and they were both armed with handguns.

When officers arrived they contacted the victim and discovered the victim had gone to the neighbor’s house in an attempt to get a key that belonged to a mutual friend. During this contact an argument ensured and the two neighbors pulled out handguns. The suspects threatened to shoot the victim if he did not leave the property. The victim immediately left and called police to report it.

Officers Meiss, Dawson, Eschan, and Cardenas responded to the location where the suspects were. Officers made contact with the occupants but they refused to come out. The department had a crisis negotiator on scene. After several phones calls and multiple announcements on the patrol vehicles PA system one of the suspects came out. When he exited the home he was with two small children and an elderly male.

During an interview with the suspect officers learned that the second suspect was still at the location. He was found locked in a detached garage. The garage had actually been locked from the outside by the first suspect. The suspects were found to be a father and son. They were identified as 53 year old Sergio Garcia of Fresno, and 27 year old Sergio Garcia Jr of Fresno. Garcia Jr was found to be on active parole for assault with a deadly weapon (firearm). Both suspects had a long and violent criminal history.

During the investigation officers were able to locate both handguns that were used in this crime. Both handguns were seized and booked as evidence. S-Garcia Sr was charged with brandishing a firearm and other weapons related felonies while S-Garcia Jr was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, parole violation and multiple other weapons related offenses.

The Fresno Police Department would like to remind the public that Crime Stoppers has enhanced the rewards for information related to gang members who are involved in narcotic sales, firearm possession, and human trafficking.
