FRESNO - On Thursday, March 29, 2018, at approximately 2100 hours, Southwest Patrol Officers responded to the 2200 block of S Plumas regarding several subjects in the parking lot. One subject, described as a male wearing a red shirt and having a gold grill on his teeth, had brandished a firearm.
Upon arrival, Officers drove into the parking lot where three males who all attempted to walk away. One of the subjects, wearing a red shirt and having a gold grill on his teeth, was very argumentative and uncooperative with officers. This subject was detained and identified as 30 year old Fresno Resident Charles Garrett, who is an identified Strother Boy Criminal Street Gang member.
Southwest Patrol Officers N. Romero, P. Rivera, and Corporal S. Briseno conducted an investigation, spoke with citizens, and canvased the area for evidence; leading officers to a brown Buick sedan located in the parking lot. Upon checking the vehicle, Officers located a loaded black semi-automatic handgun resting on top of one of the tires. Garrett was later identified as the person placing the handgun on the tire as officers arrived.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Garrett was arrested for several firearm related offenses and later booked into the Fresno County Jail. The handgun was a black Ruger .380 caliber and was reported as stolen.
The Fresno Police Department would like to remind the public that Crime Stoppers has enhanced the rewards for information related to gang members who are involved in narcotic sales, firearm possession, and human trafficking.
The new campaign consists of the following monetary rewards for anonymous tips. If a gang member is arrested for possessing a handgun, the reward is $2,000. If a gang member is arrested for possessing an assault rifle, the reward is $3,000. If a gang member is arrested for human trafficking, the reward is $3,000 and if a gang member is involved in drug sales, the reward is $1,000.
