KINGSBURG - Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have booked three men into the Fresno County Jail for their roles in a hot prowl burglary. They are: 19 year old Lorenzo Herrera of Reedley, 19 year old Morgan Bray of Reedley and 20 year old Baldemar Ambriz of Reedley. Herrera is facing felony charges of burglary and assault on an officer. His bail is set at $275,000. Bray is facing a felony burglary charge. His bail was set at $70,000 and he has bonded out. Ambriz is facing a felony burglary charge. His bail was set at $70,000 and he has also bonded out.
Shortly before 11:00 am on Wednesday, three men armed with a handgun and a baseball bat smashed a glass door and entered a home located near the intersection of S. Zediker Ave. and E. Kamm Ave. in Kingsburg. The woman who was inside at the time, ran out to a nearby business to get help calling 911.
The woman had previously called her husband to tell him what was going on. He arrived and began to follow the suspects as they drove away from the house in a red Dodge pickup truck. A California Highway Patrol officer patrolling the area was notified of the call. He saw the suspects’ pickup and turned on his lights and siren in an attempt to pull them over.
The suspects refused to stop and a pursuit ensued for about six miles. The suspects’ eventually stopped near Manning and Smith Avenues when their pickup got stuck in a dirt field. Citizens helped detain the driver, Baldemar Ambriz, while Herrera and Bray ran from the truck. A CHP officer confronted Herrera and as he pointed his handgun at him, Herrera pointed a .22 caliber rifle at the officer.
Assisting CHP officers approached seconds later and Herrera gave up. He was taken into custody without any problem. CHP officers searching for Bray found him and took him into custody as well. Deputies and officers searched the suspects’ pickup and found a shotgun, cash and jewelry that were stolen from the home they broke into just before the pursuit.
